Pity The Child

Kiara nodded. "Well sugar," she said. "What an IV is, is basically as set of tubes," she stopped to show Lennon the tubes in question, "that are connected to a bag of medicine," she stopped again to show him the medicine bag. "This will give you your medicine so I don't have to wake you up all the time to make you drink nasty stuff, or give you a shot or somethin'."

"Oh...that." Lennon mumbled, frowning. "I've had that before...."

Kiara nodded. "Well, I need to give you one now, okay?"

Lennon looked nervous and pulled a face, curling up close to Sammy.

"It's okay sweetie," Sammy said softly. "I'll be right here with you the whole time," she said. "Y'know, I don't like them very much either," she whispered in Lennon's ear.

Lennon nodded and smiled, slowly holding out his arm to Kiara.

Sammy smiled, taking Lennon's hand in her own while Kiara cleaned the spot where the needle would go

Lennon jumped a little as Kiara cleaned his arm. "It's cold..." He said.

"I know hun, I know," said Kiara softly. "Y'know, you're doin' a lot better at this than your momma does," she added, grinning at Sammy a bit. "Ask your daddy if you don't believe me."

Lennon chuckled. "But dad's too busy being sad and hugging Monte on the dirty floor..."

Sammy chuckled softly. "Let's just say you're a lot braver than I am honey."

Lennon smirked. "You shouldn't be afraid of a needle mama, they make you better..."

"I know sweetie," Sammy replied. "things just hurt me more than they hurt you." Kiara gave a small smile. "Alright kiddo, you ready?"

Lennon smiled and hugged Sammy before holding his arm back out.

"Alright sugar, just a little pressure," said Kiara, carefully slipping the needle in.

Lennon closed his eyes, flinching slightly at the pain.

Sammy stroked Lennon's hair. "Almost done sweetie, you're doin' great."

Lennon gave a small nod, leaning back against Sammy.

"There you go kiddo," Kiara smiled, taping the IV in place.

Lennon smiled, slowly opening his eyes to look.

Sammy smiled. "You still cold sweetie?"

"Yeah..." Lennon said quietly, coughing.

"Let's put the blanket back around you then," said Sammy. "So your jacket doesn't catch the IV."

"Kay." Lennon mumbled, reaching to grrab the blanket.

"Here," said Kiara gently, handing the blanket to Sammy so she could wrap Lennon up again. "How's that?" Sammy asked.
