Pity The Child

Lennon frowned, but nodded, looking up at Adam. "What's wrong with dad?"

"He's just upset that your mom let you get this sick," said Sammy "She still has them?" Kiara asked confused. "According to the file she surrendered parental rights months ago....."

"What?" Adam asked angrily, quickly turning around. "Since when? Every time I've had the boys the past few months she's came and picked them up hours before she's even fucking supposed to!"

Kiara opened the file again. "According to the file she told a social worker about eight moths ago that she didn't want to deal with them anymore, she was supposed to drop them off with you that morning."

"Well she never did!" Adam hissed, pacing and mumbling angrily.

Monte, who had been woken up by all the commotion, curled up in his chair, shaking and whimpering.

Adam stopped as soon as he heard Monte whimper, quickly going over to him. "Hey..." He said softly, kneeling in front of the chair. "It's okay, I'm sorry..."

Lennon coughed violently, pulling a face then acted as if he was fine.

Monte curled away from Adam. "D-Don't hurt me daddy, p-please....." Sammy gently rubbed Lennon's back. "You okay sweetie?"

Adam froze, having been reaching out with one arm to hug Monte, a blank look suddenly on his face. After a few seconds, Adam slowly moved away, lowering his hand. He sat on the floor with his knees to his chest, putting his head in his hands.

Lennon gave a small nod.

Sammy swallowed hard. She'd had a feeling this was going to happen, but she didn't know what to do now. "Adam, Adam honey c'mere....."

Adam didn't respond, not moving from his spot on the floor.

Sammy was about to say something when Monte got down from his chair and went over to Adam, wrapping his tiny arms around Adam as best he could. "Daddy wouldn't hurt us, " Monte said softly. "Daddy loves us."

Adam slowly lifted his head at the sound of Monte's voice, smiling softly at him, despite the tears on his face.

Monte moved to wrap his arms around Adam's neck. "Love you daddy."

"I love you too." Adam said softly, hugging him back.

Lennon smiled as he watched them.

"I'm sorry I got scared like that," said Monte.

"It's ok..." Adam said softly, holding Monte close.

"Don't wanna go back there," Monte mumbled.

Lennon shook his head. "Me either..."

"You won't have to," Sammy told the boys, stroking Lennon's hair. "Just to get your stuff, that's all."

Lennon smiled at Sammy after coughing.

Adam leaned his head against Monte, hugging him tight.

Sammy looked up as Kiara brought over the supplies to run Lennon's IV

Lennon raised an eyebrow, not knowing what the stuff Kiara had was for.

Sammy stroked Lennon's hair as Kiara moved to Lennon's side of the bed. "Lennon, have you ever had an IV before?" Kiara asked

"Umm...."Lennon said, looking confused. "I don't know..."
