Pity The Child

Sammy smiled softly "I'll wake your daddy up sweetie," she said, shaking Adam's shoulder gently. "Adam, honey, wake up."

Adam groaned and slowly woke up. "What?" He mumbled, looking at Sammy.

"We gotta go back to a room now," said Sammy.

"Oh, right." Adam said, slowly getting up with Monte.

Kiara grabbed Lennon's jacket and the blanket as Sammy stood up with Lennon and followed her to a room

Lennon wrapped his arms around Sammy tightly, looking over her shoulder at Adam, who was following.

Kiara closed the door when they'd all got into the room. Sammy looked at Lennon "You wanna stay with me, or you want on the bed by yourself?"

Lennon wrapped his arms tighter around Sammy, whimpering. "Don't leave me mama!"

Sammy smiled, momentarily glancing back at Adam. Lennon had never called her that before. "Shhhhh, I'm not leavin' you sweetie, I'm not leavin' you I promise," she murmured, moving to sit in the bed with him in her arms.

"Don't want you too..." Lennon mumbled.

Adam shook his head.

"Shhhh shhhh momma's got you," Sammy said gently. "I'm right here."

Adam smiled, watching as Lennon curled close to Sammy.

Sammy gently stroked Lennon's hair.

Adam gently put Monte down in a chair, staying standing himself so he didn't fall asleep again.

Kiara smiled softly. "Alright, let's see if we can figure out what's going on in there okay?"

Lennon nodded, moving away from Sammy a little, holding onto her arm.

Kiara slipped off the stethoscope from around her neck. "Alright hun, I'm just gonna take a listen to your lungs for a minute, just relax for me."

"Kay." Lennon said, coughing before closing his eyes and relaxing.

Kiara listened to Lennon's lungs for a few minutes before shaking her head. "Pneumonia, no doubt about it."

"How do you know it's definitely that?" Adam asked, forwning.

"I've treated enough cases recently to know," said Kiara. "Plus....his lungs are just....a day later and he probably would've been on a respirator when he got here."

Lennon whimpered, moving close to Sammy again.

Adam sighed in frustration. "Damn it!" He said, angrily hitting a fist against the nearest wall. "That stupid..."

"Shhhhh," Sammy murmured, pulling Lennon close. "Adam....temper," she warned softly.

Adam quickly shut his mouth, leaning his head and arm against the wall instead.

"Can I have my jacket back...?" Lennon asked quietly.

Sammy looked over to Kiara, who was gathering supplies to run an IV on Lennon. "Not yet sweetie," Sammy said softly.
