Pity The Child

Lennon lifted his head again, slowly looking up at the nurse, a worried look on his face.

Adam just nodded at the nurse.

The nurse knelt down to Lennon's level. "Hi there sweetheart," she smiled. "You don't have to be scared, I'm not here to hurt you."

"Not your sweetheart..." Lennon mumbled, Adam trying not to laugh when he heard it.

Sammy chuckled softly. "You are just like your father honey," she whispered to Lennon.

Lennon smiled at Sammy before looking back up at the nurse.

The nurse walked over to the other side of the room, sliding the basic vital machine over to the chair. Sammy rolled her eyes. She could tell this woman was a ditz and didn't blame Lennon for mouthing off to her. When she was called out of the room to deal with another patient, Sammy glanced down at Lennon. "You want me to do it honey?"

"Do what...?" Lennon asked, looking confused as he looked at the machine.

"It's just the real simple stuff is all," said Sammy. "Check your temperature, blood pressure, easy stuff."

Lennon hesitated before giving a small nod.

Sammy nodded, pulling the machine closer. She put the blood pressure cuff on his arm, and the pulse oximeter on his finger, before hold holding the thermometer to his ear and pushing the button on the machine. "Just stay still for a minute."

Lennon pulled a face, but stayed still anyway.

Adam leaned his head against the wall.

"It'll only take a minute Lennon, I promise," said Sammy. "How you feelin?"

"Sore..." Lennon mumbled, frowning.

Sammy kissed the top of Lennon's head. "Hopefully we'll figure this out and get you something for it soon."

Lennon gave a small nod, pulling a face when he remembered he was meant to stay still.

"It's okay honey," Sammy said as the machine beeped, and an old med school classmate of Sammy's, Kiara DiAvaro, came into the room and wrote everything down. Sammy smiled. "Lennon, this is Kiara, she's an old friend of mine."

"Hello." Lennon said, giving a small smile as he looked up at Kiara.

Adam had fallen asleep, holding Monte tight.

Kiara smiled. "Hello yourself, you you must be thee one Sammy babbles on about so much, saw how you handled little miss baby talk earlier, not bad tough guy, not bad."

Lennon grinned. "I get told I'm like my daddy..."

Kiara smiled more. "I bet you are," she said. "So, you wanna tell me what's botherin' you?"

"Hurts..." Lennon sighed, coughing.

"What hurts hun?" Kiara asked.

"My chest." Lennon mumbled, coughing again after pointing to it.

Kiara nodded. "Well let's get you settled down in a room and I'll see what I can do for you, alright?"

"Kay..." Lennon said quietly before looking over at Monte and Adam. "What about them?" He asked.
