Pity The Child

Adam adjusted his grip on Monte and looked over at Sammy.

Sammy gave Adam a small smile.

Adam tried to smile back, but ended up sighing and looking down at the floor instead.

"It's okay Addy," Sammy said softly.

"that doesn't mean I'm not going to worry though..." Adam mumbled.

"I know," said Sammy.

"I was just thinking how much worse this could have been if she'd dropped them off only a day later than she had..." Adam said quietly.

"Addy......baby don't do that to yourself," said Sammy.

"Do what? Worry about my boys?" Adam asked.

"The what ifs Addy," said Sammy.

"Right..." Adam sighed. "Sorry."

"I just don't want you to worry your way into a hospital bed of your own," said Sammy.

"I won't, I'm fine." Adam said.

"If you say so," said Sammy.

"I'm too busy to be sick..." Adam said, shrugging his shoulders.

"But being busy makes it easier darlin," said Sammy.

Adam sighed. "Oh right..."

"Just don't forget to take care of yourself too," Sammy told him.

"I won't...or at least I'll try not to..." Adam said.

Sammy nodded, glancing at the clock.

"Any idea how long something like this takes?" Adam asked.

"An hour or so at the longest," said Sammy.

Adam nodded and looked down at Monte.

Monte was fast asleep.

Adam smiled softly, watching Monte. "He was so worried about him..." Adam said quietly.
