Pity The Child

"I was too..." said Monte, a few tears falling.

"Monte..." Adam sighed, letting go of Sammy to hug him properly.

"I don't like him being like that and not being able to help...." said Monte.

"I know, I know...I don't either." Adam said.

"I'm supposed to help him," said Monte. "but...I couldn't....."

"It's ok Monte, the doctors will make him better." Adam said softly, rubbing Monte's back.

Monte nodded, sniffling a bit.

Adam sighed and held Monte close.

"You promise he'll be okay?" Monte asked.

"Yes, he'll be fine Monte," Adam said. "If you were still with her though..." He mumbled afterwards.

Monte whimpered at the thought.

"Sorry..." Adam said quickly, not having expected Monte to have heard what he'd said.

"She used to say we'd die before she ever let you take us...." Monte mumbled.

"What? Why?" Adam asked, frowning.

"As long as she had us, you had to see her," said Monte.

"What...?" Adam asked again, looking confused.

"I dunno, she confuses me," said Monte.

"You aren't the only one she confuses..." Adam sighed.

Monte nodded, chuckling softly.

Adam smiled, gently kissing Monte's head.

Monte yawned softly, all the stress wearing him out.

Adam started gently rubbing Mote's back again, trying to get him to relax.

Monte slowly closed his eyes.

Adam sighed softly and leaned against the wall as he held Monte.

Monte slowly fell asleep.
