Pity The Child

Sammy smiled, kissing his warm forehead.

"Mama...?" Lennon said quietly. "Why won't dad tell us why you're sick?"

"Cause you're daddy is stubborn," said Sammy.

"I know he is," Lennon sighed. "But he promised."

"I know he did sweetie, I know he did," said Sammy. "When he and Monte get up, we'll talk, kay?"

"Kay..." Lennon sighed, moving closer to Sammy.

"Now c'mon sweetie, don't be be sad," said Sammy gently. "Where'd that smile go, hm?"

"Lost it..." Lennon mumbled, shrugging his shoulders.

Sammy held Lennon close. "Everything's gonna be okay sweetie, I promise."

"Really?" Lennon asked quietly.

Sammy nodded. "No matter what happens, it'll be okay."

"Okay..." Lennon said, looking unsure.

Sammy stroked Lennon's hair. "Hey, I've never lied to you before have I?"

"Not you, no." Lennon said.

"Then trust me on this, okay?" said Sammy.

Lennon nodded slowly. "Okay."

Monte shifted a bit in his sleep.

Lennon sat up slightly, looking over at Monte with a worried look.

Monte shifted again before settling.

Lennon kept watching his brother for a few seconds after Monte settled before lying back down.

"He's okay Lennon," said Sammy. "I know what it feels like to be in your place y'know, I got brothers of my own, brothers, two of 'em."

"Oh...you do?" Lennon asked, smiling slightly.

Sammy nodded. "My baby brother isn't much older than you."

Lennon grinned. "So why haven't we met him?" He asked.

"Jordan is......well Jordan is different," said Sammy. "You'll meet him when the time is right."
