Pity The Child

"You promise?" Monte asked softly.

"Yes of course." Adam said, hugging him tighter. "You know I would never do anything like she has...right?"

Monte nodded slowly. "I-I know," he said. "She just told us some really mean stuff about you..."

"Like what...?" Adam asked curiously, raising an eyebrow.

"She said you never wanted us," said Monte. "That you tried to make her give us away."

"What? No! I never said anything like that." Adam told Monte. "I would never give you boys away."

"Well, that's what she said," said Monte. "She said you got mad when she found out she was gonna have Lennon."

"Oh..." Adam said quietly, unsure of what to say.

"She tried to make you look like the mean one," said Monte. "but you're not mean, just silly."

Adam smiled. "Yeah...sometimes." He laughed softly.

Monte laughed as well.

"Has...she said anything else?" Adam asked softly.

"She's said a lot of stuff," said Monte. "but more to Lennon than me."

"Oh...what else has she said to you?"

Monte stopped to think. "Just a lot of the same stuff over again," he said. "You didn't want us, you didn't love us, stuff like that."

"Lies..." Adam mumbled, rolling his eyes.

"I know daddy," said Monte. "Lennon does too, even if he doesn't say so."

"Well that's good." Adam said, hugging him tighter.

Monte smiled. He'd missed getting hugs. "Daddy," he said softly. "You promised you'd tell us what's wrong with momma...."

"I know Monte, I know." Adam sighed. "I will, when Lennon's up..."

Monte nodded. "Kay."

"And I do actually mean it this time..." Adam said, smiling.

Monte nodded again. "Kay."

Adam grinned, brushing Monte's hair back. "Do you want this fixed at all? ...when the two of them are allowed out of here?" He asked.

"Maybe," said Monte, frowning slightly at a memory.
